Backed by the British Embassy, Genomics & Science Dojo 3.0 Equips Indonesian Researchers for Publication in World-Class Q1 Journals

After completing an intensive learning journey, Genomics & Science Dojo 3.0 officially concluded with a four-day Workshop held from 19–22 July 2026, followed by Dissemination Day on 23 July 2026 in Jakarta. The event marked the culmination of a capacity-building program designed to strengthen the capabilities of Indonesian researchers in producing high-quality, globally competitive research.
Genomics & Science Dojo is a capacity-building initiative that provides an immersive learning experience through hands-on practice, collaboration, and intensive mentorship. Supported by the British Embassy Jakarta and spearheaded by Summit Institute for Development (SID), GSI Lab, and OUCRU Indonesia, the program embraces the philosophy of a Dojo as a dedicated learning space where continuous practice takes place in a safe and supportive environment. It also adopts the principle of Shinjitsu—the pursuit of truth—as the foundation of scientific thinking. Through this approach, participants are encouraged to cultivate critical thinking, uphold scientific integrity, and produce impactful genomics and health research that addresses real-world challenges.
Throughout the four-day workshop, participants took part in a series of sessions focused on strengthening research capacity, including refining study designs, developing scientific manuscripts, discussing research methodologies, and receiving personalized mentorship from experts across diverse scientific disciplines. The program placed participants at the center of the learning process, emphasizing experiential learning, constructive feedback, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The program culminated in Dissemination Day on 23 July 2026, bringing together participants, academics, researchers, and key stakeholders from Indonesia's health research ecosystem. The event opened with remarks from representatives of the British Embassy Jakarta and the Summit Institute for Development, followed by presentations on Indonesia's health research priorities, the learning journey of Genomics & Science Dojo, and the importance of translating scientific discoveries into meaningful societal impact. Julia Takahashi-Robertson, Health Adviser and Head of Health at the British Embassy Jakarta, reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to supporting the initiative, which has now reached its third edition.
"Knowledge only becomes meaningful when it can be applied at the moment it is needed most. Through this initiative, learning goes beyond theory by building the readiness and competence required to act effectively in scientific practice," she said..
In addition to showcasing participants' research projects, Dissemination Day featured two panel discussions exploring strategic topics, including the future of genomics and health research in Indonesia, the importance of cross-sector collaboration, and research innovation driven by real-world impact. The research presented addressed a range of national health priorities, from bioinformatics for drug discovery and preconception nutritional supplementation to strengthening forensic services for survivors of sexual violence.
Beyond providing a platform for participants to present their work, the dissemination event also strengthened collaboration among early-career researchers, academics, research institutions, and development partners committed to advancing Indonesia's research ecosystem.
One of the core objectives of Genomics & Science Dojo is to support the development of research that meets the standards for publication in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Through research funding, intensive mentorship, and a comprehensive learning ecosystem, the program aims to enable participants to develop their studies for publication in Q1-ranked journals, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and global health.
Through Genomics & Science Dojo 3.0, the Summit Institute for Development and its partners remain committed to nurturing a sustainable learning ecosystem that empowers Indonesian researchers to excel academically while producing collaborative, relevant, and impactful research that improves public health both nationally and globally.
